Ask HN: Can PowerBI be replaced by Python?

I'm a software engineer, starting a data analyst position soon. I didn't have a clue what the job entailed to be honest, except that I liked the description and needed a job (I was being rejected as a software engineer the whole time).

But when they gave me a technical assessment, it turns out that I aced it (including the presentation) since I just saw a data problem and approached it how a software engineer would (with Jupyter/Pandas/Python, it just made sense to use that).

So now I'm actually learning about the job, and while I notice that there are a lot of skills that I already have, making beautiful dashboards with PowerBI/Tableau is not one of them.

Is it possible to do this programmatically with Python or is there no programmatic way that would be considered to be the industry standard? I'm also trying to see if I can perform my job in such a way that if I'd turn back to software engineering that most of my experience is with Python (and perhaps also web as I'd then opt to make the dashboards in web, but that'd seem overkill to me).
